Open Sound System - OSS is a set of device drivers that provide a uniform API across all the major UNIX architectures. Creative's latest attempt at delivering a reliable binary driver was in April when they tried again by releasing a new beta driver. Applying 5.0 profile seems to improve things a little but does not clear the sound completely.
